“Observe the Sabbath and keep it holy” (Exodus 20:8). At The Temple, we fulfill this commandment in the sunagogue. Shabbat is an opportunity for our community to gather together and share in each other’s company.
Every Friday at 6:00 PM, we host a Kabbalat Shabbat service where we welcome the Sabbath. During the summer, services are preceded by a special oneg gathering with light refreshments beginning at 5:30 PM. Throughout the year, we also host guest speakers during evening worship and congregational dinners following services.
Every Saturday morning at 9:00 AM, our Shabbat observance continues with a Torah study session focused on the weekly portion led by one of our clergy members. At 10:30 AM, we continue with Shabbat services where the Torah is read - generally by one of our bar or bat mitzvah students from our excellent religious school. When a bar or bat mitzvah is taking place on a Saturday morning, smaller and more intimate services are held in the Covenant Chapel.
On the second Saturday of each month, we additionally host a Mini Shabbat for our infants through preschoolers and their families.
Questions about Shabbat, our worship services, or our liturgy can be directed to one of our clergy. We also host a number of TAMID adult education classes that can help address any questions you might have on these subject.
For information on our adult education, please contact Rabbi Steven Rau at 404-873-1731.
